Life on Dingle Bay: Meet Skipper Adam and Crew Niamh
The People Behind the Boats are a big part of what makes every trip with Dingle Dolphin Boat Tours so memorable. When you step aboard one of our boats, there’s a good chance you’ll be too busy taking in the harbour, the fresh Atlantic air, and the excitement of getting out on the water to notice much else.
And that’s exactly as it should be.
But the people taking you out on the water are a big part of the experience too.
The People Behind the Boats are just as important as the scenery and wildlife. Skipper Adam and crew member Niamh both grew up here on the Dingle Peninsula. The sea has been part of their lives for as long as either of them can remember. And spending time with them out on the water, it really shows.

Adam — A Life on the Water
For Adam, the sea was never something he discovered. It was always there.
He grew up in a family with deep roots on the water, and from a young age he was out on the boats with his father, learning these waters long before he ever thought of making a career from them. The tides, the weather, the coastline, he’s been learning them his whole life.
And then there was Fungie.
While people travelled from all over the world hoping to catch even a glimpse of Dingle’s famous dolphin, Adam was simply growing up alongside him. Fungie wasn’t a tourist attraction to Adam. He was part of the harbour. Part of everyday life.
Seeing a dolphin around Dingle Harbour was just part of growing up here.
Looking back now, Adam knows how special that was. At the time, it was simply home.
These days, after 18 years with Dingle Dolphin Boat Tours, Adam is still doing what he’s always done, watching the ocean.
He’s quiet and steady on the boats, the kind of person passengers feel at ease with immediately. But underneath that calm is an extraordinary amount of knowledge. The sort that only comes from years and years of actually being out there.
He notices things most people would miss. Changes in the water, shifts in the weather, and the little signs that tell you where wildlife might be that day.
Ask him about his favourite wildlife sighting and the answer comes straight away, humpback whales.
Watching one surface offshore, that slow rise and exhale, the sheer size of it, even after all these years, he still loves seeing them.
When he’s not on the boats, you’ll often find him sea swimming, warming up in one of the local saunas, or out on the pitch and putt. Still outdoors. Still close to the water. Some things never change.
Niamh — Passion You Can Feel
Niamh is newer to the team, but you’d never know it from the moment she starts talking about this place.
She grew up around the sea too, spending much of her younger years at the local sailing club. Like Adam, she grew up in Dingle when Fungie was simply part of life around the harbour.
What you notice about Niamh almost immediately is how much she loves it here.
The peninsula, the wildlife, the history, the stories, all of it.
It’s not something she puts on for visitors. It’s just genuinely who she is.
Passengers pick up on it straight away, and her reviews say it better than we ever could. People regularly comment on her knowledge of the area, the stories she shares, and how she brings the coastline to life.
For Niamh, it’s never just about pointing at something and naming it. It’s about the story behind it. The history beneath the cliffs. The islands out on the horizon. The wildlife that calls these waters home.
As a crew member with Dingle Dolphin Boat Tours, Niamh loves helping visitors understand what they’re looking at, discover the history, wildlife and beauty of the Dingle Peninsula, and why it’s so special.
Her favourite wildlife sightings? Basking sharks and whales.
Seeing them in local waters never loses its magic, and the excitement is as real now as it was when she first started spending time on the sea.
Away from the boats, Niamh is rarely far from the water. Whether she’s surfing, heading out on a boat, or painting, much of her inspiration comes from the coastline and wildlife she spends so much time around.

No Two Days Are Ever the Same
The People Behind the Boats don’t just work here, they’ve grown up on these waters, know them inside out, and love sharing them with every visitor who joins us.
People sometimes imagine that working on the water looks the same every single day.
It really doesn’t.
Some days the sea is calm, visibility stretches for miles, and the coastline seems to go on forever. Other days bring dramatic skies, changing weather, and wildlife sightings that nobody expected.
That’s part of what makes it so special.
After all their years on the water, Adam and Niamh still find themselves surprised by what a day can bring.
And when the tours finish for the day? Adam might be sea swimming. Niamh might be out surfing or back at her easel. Both of them choosing, in their own time, to be exactly where they spend their working days, close to the sea.
That’s one of the things we love most about having Adam and Niamh onboard.
They genuinely love this place, the wildlife, the history, and the waters that surround it.
And sharing that with visitors every day never gets old.
