A Locals Guide to Dingle

March is a lovely month in Dingle. After the quieter winter weeks, the town slowly starts to wake up again, and there’s a real sense of freshness around the place. Locals are refreshed, businesses begin reopening, and you can feel a gentle buzz building as the new season approaches.

It’s still quieter than the busy summer months, but that’s part of the charm. By the middle to end of March, Dingle feels alive again, just without the summer crowds.

What Is the Weather Like in Dingle in March?

If there’s one thing to know about Dingle weather, it’s this: you should be prepared for anything and March is no exception.

The weather can be very mixed, but in fairness, that’s true at any time of year here. It’s not unusual to experience four seasons in one day. You might have sunshine, showers, wind, and calm all within a few hours. It is Ireland though, so anything is possible!

March is generally:

  • A bit cooler
  • Fresh and bright on good days
  • Changeable, so layers are key

Good waterproofs, warm layers, and a flexible plan will go a long way. The upside? When the weather is good, the light is beautiful and the scenery is incredible.

Dingle Starting to Open for the Season

March is when things begin to turn a corner in town. After winter, cafes, restaurants, and local businesses start reopening, and there’s a noticeable shift in energy.

The days are getting longer, there are more people around, and Dingle begins to feel like itself again. It’s still peaceful, but there’s excitement in the air as everyone gears up for the season ahead.

St Patrick’s Day in Dingle: Tradition at its Best

St Patrick’s Day is one of the highlights of March in Dingle and it’s very much a local affair.

One of the things that makes Dingle special is the 6am St Patrick’s Day parade, one of the earliest in Ireland. Even at that hour, so many locals turn up. All ages come together, and there’s a real sense of pride in keeping traditions alive. It’s dark, early, and incredibly special.

Later in the day, Dingle hosts its main parade in the afternoon. Locals decorate tractors, cars, trailers, anything they can and join in. It’s not polished or commercial, and that’s exactly why people love it. It’s simply the community coming together to celebrate, with plenty of fun along the way.

If you want to experience St Patrick’s Day as it’s meant to be, local, genuine, and full of character, Dingle is a great place to be. It’s not a fancy parade and that’s exactly the point.

Boat Tours Returning to the Water in March

From St Patrick’s Day weekend, boat tours in Dingle Bay begin to return to the water, marking the real start of the season for Dingle Dolphin Boat Tours.

In the first few weeks, we operate Dingle Bay Cliff Tours, which are a fantastic way to experience the dramatic cliffs and local history of Dingle Bay as the season begins. Toward the end of March, we gradually move into running longer tours as conditions allow.

March is always a special time to be back on the water. After the winter break, there’s nothing better than getting out into the bay again, it’s something we genuinely love, and it never gets old.

As always, tours are weather-dependent and safety comes first, but when conditions are right, March can be a beautiful time to be out on Dingle Bay. Book your tour now here – Our Tours
